I would like to stress that your dance major is what you make of it. If you work hard it can change your life, if you just do the minimum nothing will change. What I’ve realized as a professional dancer is that the dancers who get the most work are the ones who work the hardest.”

Basics:

2009 Graduate of Hollis Brookline High School, Hollis

2013 Graduate of Loyola Marymount University: B.A. in Communication Studies and B.A. in Dance

KBDS Roots:

Katelyn started dancing at KBDS when she was seven years old. She had always loved dance, and quickly became a member of the Kathy Blake Dance Company during its earliest years. The other dancers in the company were some of her best friends and Katelyn loved spending all of her free time dancing her heart out at the studio. She enjoyed being able to perform at various locations, and especially loved her experience at Dance Excellence in Los Angeles, CA (Katelyn attended school and now lives in L.A.) With us, Katelyn studied a variety of styles such as ballet, modern, contemporary, lyrical, jazz, hip hop, tap and musical theatre.

Beyond the Studio:

Outside of the studio, Katelyn also participated in theater during her high school years. She believes that theater experienced helped her become a well-rounded performer and equipped her with skills that she couldn’t develop through dance alone. Katelyn learned techniques in acting. In her college years, she took lessons in voice, but she recommends to young dancers to start taking voice lessons earlier than she did. Currently, Katelyn lives in Los Angeles and works as a dancer in a contemporary company, as well as a dance teacher. She has performed all over L.A., including venues like the Staples Center, and has also performed in San Jose and Utah. Katelyn also works at a non-profit dance organization where she teaches musical theater, jazz and hip hop for ages 5 to 16. Dance truly defines Katelyn as a woman, and is ecstatic to live out her dream each and every day.
